Troubled? Give Thanks!

Updated: Jun 21, 2021

One passage that I keep in my heart in times of difficulty is Philippians 4:6. It says "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Don’t you like that Scripture? There is an important part of that passage we often miss. Let me share it with you again: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, WITH THANKSGIVING, present your requests to God." Did you see it too? Of course. Because I BOLDED this part. We can’t forget to thank God in the midst of adversity. Wow. That’s tough. Sometimes our anxiety will overcome us and we have to pray about it. In that moment we pour out our complaints and our struggles to God. He's used to it, and He doesn't mind, because He's told us to take our requests to Him. He wants to take our burdens. However, the Apostle Paul tells us to make sure we pray with thanksgiving even when we are anxious. We must not focus completely on our problems. We have to focus on the problem solver... God. He deserves more than a conversation of complaints and frustration. He wants us to remember both what He has done and what she can do. So, next time you pray, start by saying THANK YOU to God. He's the only One in your life that will always listen to you, will always be by your side, and will never leave you or forsake you. He’s been there before. He is with you now. He’ll be here when your life has ended. Thank Him. Trust Him. Praise Him. Repeat.

You are loved.
