The Greatest Virtue

What is the greatest virtue? I Corinthians 13 says it’s LOVE! Most of us would agree. However, in our minds we often feel like some people do not deserve love. You know what I mean? We think to ourselves, “They don’t deserve love, mercy, or forgiveness.” They are undeserving! Maybe you’re right. No. Please scratch that statement. You are right! They don’t deserve any good and perfect thing for the sins they have committed against you and against God. They have rightfully earned the judgmental, critical, and negative looks and comments. It’s true.

Why give people a second chance? I mean they haven’t done anything to earn one. She was selfish. He was prideful. They lied to you. He broke your heart. She was mean.If you look up cruel in the dictionary you might see a picture of that lying friend you used to trust with your deepest secrets. How could anyone have love for someone like that? You are so right! They don’t deserve anything from you! Not one kind word. Not a single thimble full of mercy or love. And forgiveness? Forget about it. Write them off. They don't deserve your efforts.

With that all said, I want you to take a brief journey with me. A necessary journey. Walk with me to the foot of a cruel, splintered, and blood stained cross that stands on a hill called Calvary. A man once hung there for those that didn’t deserve it (Romans 5:8). He knew, like no one before or after him, that we are all the same. We may not act on our impulses but we all think the same evil thoughts. And as for sin, God didn’t rank it or prioritize it. Never has and never will. All people sin (Romans 3:23) and all people can receive the grace of God (Ephesians 2:5). But don’t forget that I John 4:8 says, “He who does not love does not know God, for God is love” (NKJV).

If we love God we must have love for others. After all, He loved us first (I John 4:19)! Praise God for His unmerited favor, His unfailing love, and His unlimited grace. How could we go on without His love. He is truly good all the time! Have a great week!!!

You are loved.
